what to expect
If you’ve never been to a counsellor before, you may wonder what it is that happens or how it can help. Usually, people will come in and say what it is that is troubling them. Others will find this difficult to do and not something they are used to doing. That is ok. You will go at your own pace.
Some people worry that they will have to go into every detail of their background and family history. That may not be necessary, although some reference to your family will usually come up naturally within the sessions. You will be in control of what you want to disclose.
Sessions usually last for an hour, and would be once a week at the same time and day. However, sometimes people’s situations or working patterns make this difficult, in which case a different schedule can be worked out and agreed on. First sessions are usually time-tabled for 1 – 1 ½ hours.
how long does counselling go on?
Effective work can be done in as few as 4 – 6 sessions. Some issues may take longer but could also be taken in blocks of 6 with negotiated goals. Different clients with various issues may choose to have longer-term therapy. You will be able to discuss what will be most beneficial for you.
My studio is 10 minutes, or less, drive from Oxted, Edenbridge and Westerham, 20 minutes, or less, drive from Sevenoaks and 25 minutes drive from Redhill and East Grinstead. From the M25, Junction 6, it is about 10 minutes drive.
I work in a comfortable, private studio, shown here, with parking alongside, in the pleasant grounds of a large Victorian house, easily accessible from the main road.
how much will it cost?
For private individual clients £45, for couples £50 and
for students £40 per session.
